“No pain no gain” is a lie

“No pain no gain” is a lie.

I know of no situation in rehab or player development where one must endure overt pain to improve. I’m not sure exactly where this myth began, but my guess is that it leaked from the muscle head gyms where weight lifters and bodybuilders described the burn of muscles exercised to fatigue as “pain”.

That is not pain.

Pain makes you go “ouch”.

Pain is a warning sign and an inhibitor of performance.
“Survival always trumps performance.” If you are in pain, you will not be able to safely advance. Your body and your subconscious mind will never allow it. If you want to improve as a pitcher, your first order of business, beyond all other concerns, is to solve your pain. My staff and I evaluate anywhere from 10-40 new pitchers every week in our program. Many of them come to us because they are having pain. Helping baseball players overcome arm pain is my favorite thing to do. And frankly, I’m really good at it.

But most of our new students are looking for one thing — velocity!

They understand that to get the opportunity to play at the next level, they must be able to throw 3-5 mph harder than their peers. We are really good at that too. We have helped 135 guys achieve a 90+ mph fastball, and we’ve helped over 250 gain at least 5 mph. Honestly, developing velocity is the easiest thing we do.

But even with our velocity enhancement guys, the first order of business is ALWAYS to solve their pain.

Many pitchers claim to never have pain, but upon further investigation, they usually admit to being sore or stiff, or tired after they throw. So they are in pain, they’re just calling it something different. Once we eliminate their pain, or the fear of pain, gaining velocity is a piece of cake.

So how do we eliminate pain?

It’s a very complicated endeavor, but our system of assessment and our expertise in motor learning have simplified it significantly.

At it’s core, conducting our training like the rubber chicken doctor and avoiding any thing that hurts has been virtual gold for the development of our players.

Our Superhuman Trilogy Engineering the Superhuman Pitching Machine Volumes 1, 2, and 3 describes our entire process in great detail.
sh1-2-3

The first step is to build athleticism that specifically converts to power on the mound. Volume1, The Fab Four Pillars of Explosive Pitcher Development is the culmination of a 2 1/2 year project to identify the types of exercises that translate to improved velocity. It has a 40 exercise, 5 day per week, motor building workout plan that will lay the foundation for your development.

The next step is to conduct a world class physical assessment and video analysis to identify any possible physical constraints or movement pattern aberrations that might preclude advancement. That’s exactly what Volume 2 is all about. In this text and video, I present a step by step guide that equips every dad, mom, coach, or player to conduct his or her own evaluation.

Once the evaluation is complete, the individualized training plan writes itself. In volume 3, I show you how to target your training to carve away and inefficiencies you may have found in the evaluation. Volume 3 is written in the same format as the evaluation presented in volume 2 with every line on the eval representing a chapter in the book and video with 3-10 corrective exercises or drill for every item.

The entire system is over 500 pages and more than 3 1/2 hours of video, and if you follow it, you can eliminate your pain and improve your velocity and command all at the same time.

Developing The Superhuman process was indeed complicated, but implementing it is easy.

If you’re serious about improving your ability as safely as possible, Engineering The Superhuman Pitching Machine is the product for you.

But this system is not for dabblers. If you’re not “all in”, do me a favor.
Close this webpage and move on.

That doesn’t make you a bad person.
It doesn’t say anything about you other than you are not interested in doing everything it takes to be the best pitcher you can be.

I’m ok with that.

I’d rather not engage with dabblers.
Because dabblers never reach their full potential.
And more importantly, dabblers get hurt.
If you’re going to go down this road to improving your ability, you need to do it the right way. Throwing a baseball at intense velocity is a dangerous proposition. The only safe pitch count is zero.

But here’s the conundrum.

If you’re not currently performing at a level clearly above that of your peer group, you probably won’t get the opportunity to play at the next level.
So you can’t afford to sit idly and wait for your ability to magically emerge.
And you can’t continue to do the same things you’ve always done. If you do, one thing is for sure… you’ll continue to get the same results you’ve always gotten

How’s that working for you?

But if you want to travel down a different road — a road that has helped hundreds of guys reach their goals and achieve their dreams, this is the program for you.
